I’m Chief Librarian, Mina Rees Library, and Professor in Interactive Technology and Pedagogy and Digital Humanities at The Graduate Center, City University of New York.

My background includes a PhD in anthropology/archaeology and a Masters of Library/Information Science, which is brought together in a 10+ year, multi-campus research study on the scholarly habits of undergraduates at CUNY, with Mariana Regalado of Brooklyn College. Our 2018 book, Academic Libraries for Commuter Students: Research-based Strategies, (now available open access!) presents librarians’ and researchers’ studies on commuter students’ library use at public colleges and universities around the U.S. Our book on how CUNY students use technology in their academic work, Digital Technology as Affordance and Barrier in Higher Education, was published in 2017.

I’m also a member of the Data Doubles research team, which collaborated across 8 institutions on an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant-funded project to explore student perceptions of data privacy in learning analytics in academic libraries and higher education.

Other research and professional interests of mine include critical librarianship, using games in teaching and learning, open scholarship and teaching, and educational technology. Previously I was Project Director for the U.S. Department of Education Title V grant-funded project A Living Laboratory at New York City College of Technology, CUNY, and Co-Director of the City Tech OpenLab, an open digital platform for teaching, learning, and collaboration.
